The Machrie Golf Course

The Machrie takes its name from the Gaelic word machair, which means the links. Set in the dunes of Islay, and designed in 1891 by Willie Campbell, it is the traditional Scottish links.

Planet Golf rates The Machrie as a strong candidate to join its list of the top 100 courses on Earth. And says its magnificent Hebridean bay is one of the most beautiful locations in world golf.

That said however the course is undergoing a major redesign to make it "future proof". With the advancement of golf equipment over the past few years many courses find themselves falling behind therefore the new owners of The Machrie have set about this programme. This will be followed by a world class facility of club house facilities and hotel on site, renovation and rebuilding the Machrie to its former glory.

If you play golf at all then this course should be on your "must play" list.

(during the works there will still be an 18 hole course in play)
